The Apple TV+ comedy series Ted Lasso was awarded a Peabody on Monday. The show offers “a charming dose of radical optimism,” according to the jury, along with “the perfect counter to the enduring prevalence of toxic masculinity.”
The show follows an endlessly optimistic American football coach (played by Jason Sudeikis) who is recruited to lead an English soccer team. The results are both hilarious and oddly uplifting.
Sudeikis — who also co-created and co-writes the series — received the award from fellow SNL alum Will Ferrell.
In his acceptance speech, Sudeikis said, “It really knocks our socks off. We hope that we can all put a little of this Ted Lasso vibe in our everyday lives and you’ve certainly put a pep in our step. So, thank you and wish you all the best.”
This is only the latest accolade for the Apple TV+ show. Since debuting in summer 2020, it received Screen Actors Guild Awards, Critics Choice Awards, Writers Guild Awards, Golden Globes and AFI Television Program of the Year.

This isn’t the first Apple show to get a Peabody. The comedy series Dickinson, a fanciful reimagining of the life of poet Emily Dickinson, won in 2020.
