Accessories maker Twelve South has rolled out its new PlugBug Slim 20W USB-C charger. It’s a small but potent addition to the company’s charger lineup that could be particularly useful for travel and for those times when spacing is cramped around an electrical outlet.
Offering 20W of charging power, the PlugBug Slim offers fast charging for iPhones, iPads, AirPods, HomePod minis and more.
Twelve South PlugBug Slim: small and portable
Twelve South said the slim new charger is a good space-saver, just 17mm thick. So, “no need to move your desk or nightstand to plug in your phone charger,” the company added.
The little charger may fit the bill if you need to slip it into a knapsack or if your outlet is partially blocked by furniture or appliances that you’d rather not move around.
The PlugBug Slim becomes even more portable because you can fold down the prongs that go into an electrical outlet. That makes it easy to slip into a bag or even your pocket, if necessary.
The company saved a touch more space by putting the cable connection at the bottom of the charger. Placed in the lower socket of an outlet, it won’t interfere with other plugs.
An indicator light on the charger tells you when it’s charging a device.
GaN charging
The marketplace offers plenty of gallium nitride (GaN) chargers, including small ones. That’s because they require fewer components than silicon chargers, with more efficient current transfer. Even so, the PlugBug Slim’s form factor appears to be among the most compact options out there, even among GaN chargers.
