Apple promises “big things” at its product event happening October 18. Although that’s the only official hint we have, leaks have revealed details on a couple of extra-large Macs that might fit the bill.
And there could be good news for fans of both MacBook and iMac at the “Unleashed” event.
Apple: ‘Big things are coming soon’
Apple’s tweet reads, “Big things are coming soon.” And it follows with the date and time for the upcoming event, which the company announced several days ago.

Of course, this could be just hype. Cupertino doesn’t have to be talking about products that are literally large.
On the other hand, Apple apparently likes to drop hints about its plans. As just one example, the multicolored logo used for Apple’s April 2021 event presaged the many colors of iMac announced that day.
Plus, leaks of Apple’s plans have revealed several devices that might fit the description of “big things.”
Big MacBook Pros
Apple reportedly will unveil a redesigned 16-inch MacBook Pro at its October event. This will be the company’s biggest notebook, though it’s the same size as one already available.
And a 14-inch MacBook Pro is also supposedly on the docket. While not Apple’s largest, it’s expected to replace the current 13-inch model. Because bigger is better.
Leaks say these will run a new Apple M1X processor and bring the return of a built-in SD card reader and an HDMI port. And a MagSafe charger. The laptops likely will lack Apple’s LED Touch Bar, though. Plus, these could be the first Macs with mini-LED displays.
Bigger iMac
Another possibility for the Apple October event is a bigger, faster version of the iMac that launched in early 2021. But this remains something of a long shot. Few if any details have leaked out — unusual for a computer that is supposedly going to be unveiled in only a few days. And a tipster with a reliable history says this desktop won’t launch until 2022.
The iMac supposedly will run the M1X processor, too. It could come with a 27-inch screen like its predecessor from 2020, or 30 inches or even 32 inches. You know, bigger.
And not-so-big stuff
Everything coming at the Apple October 18 event event isn’t expected to be bigger, however. AirPods 3 are allegedly on the agenda. They will be, of course, tiny.
And an even smaller version of the iMac mini might be unveiled as well. But it supposedly will find room for double the number of Thunderbolt ports.
