Apple likely plans to launch the new Spatial Audio service for Apple Music on Monday. The feature was announced in May, and a special event devoted to the feature has been scheduled on the streaming service for June 7.

Spatial Audio allows songs mixed to support it to seemingly come from all around the listener. Even from above.

Apple Music subscribers eager to try it might not have long to wait. An event titled “Introducing Spatial Audio ” will be held Monday at 12 pm Pacific Time, 3 pm Eastern Time on the streaming service.

While that name doesn’t guarantee that Apple is going to pull the switch on the new feature June 7, it already made an official announcement in May — another one isn’t necessary. And the company promised in May the audio improvement will be out in June.

Plus, Monday’s event will start just after the WWDC 2021 keynote address finishes. The launch of the service may well be part of that presentation.

The option to listen to songs in lossless audio is also going to debut some time in June. It’s not clear whether this feature will also launch on Monday.

Benefits of Apple Music Spatial Audio

Songs mixed in Dolby Atmos can support Spatial Audio. “Listening to a song in Dolby Atmos is like magic. The music comes from all around you and sounds incredible,” said Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Apple Music and Beats, in a statement.

Not every Apple Music track supports the feature, but the iPhone-maker says “thousands” of songs will deliver the new surround sound experience. Schusser says it’ll be available from artists like J Balvin, Gustavo Dudamel, Ariana Grande, Maroon 5, Kacey Musgraves, The Weeknd and more.

Apple Music costs $9.99 a month or $14.99 a month for a family plan. Students can get the streaming service for $4.99 a month. There’s no extra charge for Spatial Audio .
