Add Nvidia Shield to the lengthy list of smart TVs and streaming boxes that can play Apple TV+. A version of the free app for the Android-powered media player debuted Tuesday.
Apple TV+ is not just for Apple devices
Many people mistakenly believe that Apple’s streaming service is only available through Apple devices. Which is understandable because many of the company’s services do have this restriction. But TV+ is an exception.
It’s available on a wide variety of streaming platforms, popular smart TVs and gaming consoles. And, starting Tuesday, Nvidia Shield. This is a collection of media players built on Android TV. And the Apple TV app even works with the built-in Google Assistant on Shield for hands-free control.

In the 1.5 years since it debuted, the collection of movies and series available through Apple TV+ has grown steadily. There are dramas, comedies, thrillers, children’s shows and documentaries. Plenty more are on the way.
The fresh summer 2021 lineup starts soon. It starts with the debut of Stephen King’s haunting Lisey’s Story (June 4). Then there’s Home Before Dark season 2 (June 11), Physical (June 18), Central Park season 2 (June 25) and the triumphant return of Ted Lasso (July 23). And it all comes with a $4.99 a month subscription.
