At age 56, Eddy Cue is going back to school. Kind of. Cue, who is Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, has been announced a member of the Duke University Board of Trustees, university officials announced Thursday.

Cue attended Duke in the 1980s, studying computer science and economics. Duke has played a big part in his life. Not only did he meet his wife there, but both his sons, Adam and Spencer, studied computer science at Duke. Cue is a big fan of Duke basketball and attends many of the games. He has previously been involved with the Duke Technology Scholar program, encouraging women to study computer science and electrical engineering.

Cue will join several others in his new position on the Duke Board of Trustees. This includes Michael Bingle, vice chairman of Silver Lake Group; Nancy-Ann DeParle, managing partner and co-founder of Consonance Capital Partners; and Grant Hill, basketball hall of famer and founder of Hill Ventures. In addition, Vikas Patel, owner of and principal physician at North Carolina Dermatology Associates; Doha Ali, a 2021 Duke graduate who studied economics and sociology; and Gerardo Párraga, a 2021 law school graduate, will serve as board observers.

“[Cue] has returned to Duke many times to assist students in technology fields, and in 2017 he spoke to the Duke Technology Scholars, an effort to inspire more Duke women undergraduates to choose careers in computer science and electrical and computer engineering,” the university’s press release notes.

As a board trustee, Cue will use his experience to help guide Duke’s “educational mission and fiscal policies.”

Eddy Cue isn’t the only high-profile Apple exec to have attended Duke University. While Tim Cook attended Auburn University for his Bachelor of Science, he attended Duke’s Fuqua School of Business for his MBA. However, as far as I’m aware, there was no overlap with Cue.
