It’s October and for many people that means it’s time to watch It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. Apple TV+ owns the rights to Peanuts and so the beloved holiday special is available through the streaming service to watch at any time. But that’s not the only option.
Here’s when and where to catch the free broadcast.

How to watch the Peanuts Halloween special for free
Apple TV+ owns the rights to all Peanuts holiday specials. But it made a deal with PBS to broadcast the Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas installments.
PBS and PBS KIDS will play It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 24. Check your local listings for exact availability. This will be even better than when the special used to be on CBS and later ABC because it will be broadcast without commercials.
Later in the year will come A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving ET on November 21 and A Charlie Brown Christmas on December 19. Both will be on PBS and on PBS Kids.

In 2020, Apple allowed those who were not subscribers to Apple TV+ to watch the Peanuts Halloween special for free. That is not being repeated this 2021. That means a $4.99 subscription is required to stream the show.
But it’s available now. Subscribers can open the Apple TV app any time they want and once again watch Charlie Brown get a bag of rocks, Snoopy take on the Red Baron, and Linus try to present the most sincere pumpkin patch in the world.
The same goes for the Peanuts Thanksgiving and Christmas specials. Any of these can be streamed or downloaded to be watched later.

More Peanuts specials are on the way
Apple isn’t settling for streaming classic holiday specials starring Charlie Brown and friends. It’s working with WildBrain’s animation studio on creating new adventures for the gang. That started with some educational programs but the real draw has been The Snoopy Show starring the irrepressible beagle — a series that has a 100% critics approval score on Rotten Tomatoes.
And in December 2021 will be the first new Peanuts holiday special. It’ll be called For Auld Lang Syne and will, unsurprisingly, celebrate New Year’s eve.
