iMac-based gaming rig shows off RGB lighting [Setups]

Redditor MalTheNotSoGentleman said he posted a photo and description of his iMac-based computer setup with three computers and three displays because of a paucity of RGB-lit Mac setups on Reddit. So now there’s at least one more. And it comes pretty loaded.

“I don’t see many Mac setups with RGB so I figured I’d post mine,” he said, in the title of his post.

iMac for light gaming, PS5 for less-light gaming

Mal said he uses his 2020 iMac 5K for music production and “some very light gaming.” He added the TV on top in the photo handles videos and “music windows.” And the TV on the left is for not-so-very-light gaming of the PS5 variety. He has a Sony PlayStation 5 Disk Edition.

The iMac packs an Intel i7 chip, a Radeon 5700XT Graphics Card, a 32GB DDR4 2666MHz memory module and a 1TB internal SSD. That’s considerable computing power. And his other two machines, described below, are no slouches, either.

3 computers, 3 displays

Mal keeps two other computers in the mix. An M1 MacBook Air with 16GB of integrated RAM and a 256GB SSD shares desk space with a 15.6-inch HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop (not pictured). The latter features an Intel i5 chip, a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 Ti Mobile graphics card and a 512GB SSD. Those seem like worthy companions for the iMac.

In addition to the iMac’s monitor, Mal keeps two TVs in the mix. The one on top in the photo is a 50-inch Element 1080p display running at 60Hz. It includes built-in Roku streaming. So that’s the non-gaming screen, for movies and such.

The TV on the left in the photo is a 49-inch 4K LG NanoCell85 running at 120Hz. That display handles Mal’s PS5 gaming.

Logitech-focused peripherals

Mal appears to like Logitech, as many people do, judging by the frequent appearances by the company’s wares in Cult of Mac‘s Setups coverage. Mal uses a Logitech G613 Wireless Mechanical Gaming Keyboard, an MX Master 3 Advanced Wireless Mouse, a G502 Lightspeed Wireless Gaming Mouse and a G733 Wireless Gaming Headset. All Logitech, all the time.

In the audio department, Mal gets high-quality sound through Presonus Eris E4.5 Studio Monitors. He also uses a Presonus AudioBox USB96 Audio Interface, which is for recording and editing sound, like podcasts or music, through a computer interface.

And although Mal’s post made a point of mentioning RGB lighting in its title and a commenter asked about the lights, the post includes no other lighting info. However, we found a floor lamp that looks similar to one in the photo and put it in the list below.
